In this all-day workshop, participants will:

  • Learn about an instructional unit for an intermediate German course at the University of Illinois on German-Turkish relations (esp. the "head scarf debate")
  • Learn about pedagogical activities that represent a literacy approach to teaching texts and videos (with examples from the recent youth novel Seidenhaar)
  • Work together to create new classroom materials for two episodes of the hit TV comedy series Türkisch für Anfänger
Each workshop participant will receive:
  • A copy of Seidenhaar and a DVD of the German comedy Türkisch für Anfänger
  • A CD-Rom and binder with instructional materials from the Seidenhaar unit and transcripts from selected scenes of Türkisch für Anfänger
